The Roma in Italy~ A case of Deja Vu?
I do not need to express my horror and outrage at the communication I have received from the Council of Europe, Concerms have been raised for some time about the Italian government making "camps" to keep the Roma in. Cast your mind back 60+ years. But more recently...remember Kosovo..Ruanda..and currently the situation in Zimbabwi. History just keeps repeating itself over and over again
In response to the many requests for information on who to write to to express disapproval. May I suggest that you contact the Pope. During WW2 Pope Piux X11 maintained a public front of indifference on the grounds of "nuetrality". I'm not going to deliver one of my famous rants about this, however I do think that this Pope given his own history and background should be seen to speak out against this. The Popes English is impeccable therefore he will understand any correspondence written to him in English.I'm sure he would want to hear peoples veiws on this, with that in mind ...here is the Holy Father's personal email address benedictxvi@vatican.va

Subject: SG - Proposal to fingerprint Roma in Italy - Proposition de relever les empreintes digitales des Roms en Italie
Date: Fri, 27 Jun 2008 16:14:38 +0200
From: "Council of Europe "
Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis on the proposal to fingerprint Roma in Italy
Strasbourg, 27.06.2008 - "The Italian Minister of Interior is reported to have proposed that all Roma, including children, living in camps in Italy should be fingerprinted. This proposal invites historical analogies which are so obvious that they do not even have to be spelled out. While I believe that Italian democracy and its institutions are mature enough to prevent any such ideas becoming laws, I am nevertheless concerned that a senior member of the government of one of Council of Europe member states is reported to have made such a proposal."
Thanks to the BBC for the report below

I am appalled, have we learned nothing? As an Roma-American . I am outraged, and as an Italian-American, I am ashamed. Could you please direct me to an address where I can register my protest, in Italian and English!
Mahalo nui loa (many thanks)
Mahina, in Maui, Hawaii, USA
I am appalled, will we never learn.

Unbelievable and terrorfying
I'll be emailing the Pope today.
Shay just think, they get a German Pope in the Vatican and suddenly the Italians are building camps
Shame on Italy !
I will also write to Pope, can I have his e-mail or some other contact where can I send my appeal...the question is if this will change the situation in Italy. but we have to hope and never give up...
Europe cannot and won't tolerate this kind of insane discriminatory speech and action. The Italian government started with anti-female remarks about the Spanish government and it continues with even more disgusting things... Abominevole!
I too am applled by the events happening in Italy. History time and time again repeats itself... will we never learn from our mistakes? Thank you My sister for sharing your talents and your vision with the rest of the world.
Through you, many people will truly know the value of the Romany people and just how special you are.
Thank you And God bless!

I am very upset to read about the Roma's plight in Italy. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
However, I can tell you, as a Catholic, that what you wrote about Pope Pius is incorrect. If he did nothing, why did Albert Einstein proclaim that he was a hero, and why did Israel plant trees in his honor because of his work saving Jews? The story that Pope Pius did nothing all started with an anti-Catholic play written by Bertoldt Brecht. Please research what I have written and make the corrections to your blog post. The Catholic Church cares very much for those who can't defend themselves. JPII even canonized the first Roma saint a few years ago.

If you would like to know the truth about what Pope Pius XII did for the Jews, read the following and correct your blog post...

If you won't, you are no different that the people you criticize on your blog. Spreading mischaracterizations and untruths lead to bigotry.

You people are very good to say and write good words, but do you live here in Italy and do you know what's the real situation is? I mean not what you can easily read over the Internet, but what you can live on your skin, day by day? I don't think so, you live in your good and beautiful cities in northern europe or in the states or somewhere else I don't care. I am italian and always lived here in Italy. There's no moment in which you can stop with your car at the traffic light and some rom starts his miserable trip to evryone waiting in line there, insistently asking for money. There's no day in which you can read on newspaper about theft, harassement and sometimes raping by eastern european rom people. There's no week in which you can't read about some of them driving their (stolen) car drunk and then slaughtering people. Well we have our own pickpockets, thugs and thieves, we really don't need to import them from abroad. We are pissed off. Our government simply express all the disgust by our people. We are litterally pissed off of such individuals. They cannot pretend to act as masters at someone else's house. Really they can't. Why don't you bring these scum to your beautiful places, so maybe then you will open your eyes and start dealing with this matter in a radical different way. It's easy to say shame when you don't know what you are talking about. It's like changing clothes without having taken a bath previously. Stinky! BTW: as you probably know, France has already opened her eyes too... maybe next is you..
